We have been growing Ashwagandha for the last four years and have grown increasingly fond of this magical herb.
We were first called to grow Ashwagandha out of our personal use of the herb. We have been devoted to using this medicine for many years and it has had an enormous impact on our lives.
What is Ashwagandha?
Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera) is a herbaceous subshrub, native to Africa, India, the Middle East and East Asia. It has traditionally been used in Ayurvedic medicine for millennia, revered for it many health benefits.
Ashwagandha is an adaptogenic herb that works with the physiology of the individual to bring harmony or homeostasis to the body. It has been widely used to help with stress and anxiety while increasing overall vitality. Other possible benefits include - improved sleep, fights fatigue and depression, fertility, joint aches & pains, enhanced brain and nervous system function.
It is truly an herb for the modern world!
How is it Grown?
Mountainwise Ashwagandha is grown first and foremost with love and devotion. We start our organic seeds in the early spring and transplant after the last frost. Our Ashwagandha is planted in our “upper garden” which is located at the highest point of our farm at almost 4,000 ft. As with everything we grow, our Ashwagandha is grown using Certified Naturally Grown practices and harvested after a series of frosts between October - November.
After our crop has been harvested, it undergoes a rigorous cleaning process, then it is chipped and dried in our dedicated herb drying room (pictured above).
